The Brewster Apartments with Marina: 2800 N. Pine Grove
Meet Marina, one of the hardest working people I know. She’s one of the boss ladies of The Publishing House Bed & Breakfast, an establishment for which I have a deep affinity. I have had many-a-staycations and holidays here. I recommend their made-with-love “brekkie” (one of the owners is Australian, so “breakfast” is hardly in their vocabulary), coffee in bed, and purging their book collection for hours on end. One winter holiday, I discovered The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing by Mari Kondo and read it in one sitting. I probably did not have to hyperlink that because you likely watched her entire Netflix series but here to hook you up regardless. She also works for Sunbadger Solar (which btw, if you haven’t considered solar for your home, you’re missing out on serious tax benefits).
The Brewster Apartments designated a Chicago Landmark October 6, 1982
Anyway, we are currently shopping for her new home and went on a tour of the Brewster Building and where do we even begin? First, the Romanesque Revival exterior is breathtaking but what yanked our heart strings was the beaming natural light that spilled through the open cast-iron stairwells.
The Brewster Apartments has served as a location in the movies Running Scared, Child's Play and Hoodlum. There’s some rumor Charlie Chaplin may or may not have visited the building during his brief time in Chicago. I resonate with Chaplin on a molecular level because we both have big, black eyebrows so I’m all about it. (Wow, did Lola really train-of-thought Publishing House, Marie Kondo, and Charlie Chaplin’s eyebrows? Mhm, and this is why we blog).
The Brewster Building was designated a Chicago Landmark October 6, 1982. It was originally known as the Lincoln Park Palace (by God does that sound good. “Why yes, please drive me to the Lincoln Park Palace.”) It has a human operated elevator. Yes, you should check it out.
Dunkin Donuts & Speed Walking go Hand-In-Hand
We closed the evening off with a Dunkin’ Donuts ice cream cone, sped walked to West Town because we both enjoy relaying how many miles we walked in a day to one another, and oozed over the magic of The Brewster.
All of this to say, contact me if you’re also obsessed with the Publishing House, care to go on a 10-mile walk, or visit other Chicago landmarks.
If you are interested in buying or selling, give me a ring. I’d be happy to give you a comparative market analysis on what your home may be worth and/or shopping for your next home. Talk soon.
