MIES VAN DER ROHE | 2400 LAKEVIEW | 2 BED
The Michael Hall Group sold this property in 24 hours aka showed it one time.
Our two bedroom, recently renovated listing in the historic 2400 North Lakeview, Mies van der Rohe designed condominium building sold in less than a day. The unit is positioned in the Southeast tier, offering dramatic park, lake and urban views. This renovation was to die for—from the heated, white porcelain floors throughout, built-in closets, to the Bulthaup stainless steel counters, Integrated Sub-Zero refrigerator and Miele appliances. The bathrooms were finished with German and Italian fixtures with back-painted glass tile. The building amenities were a cherry on top with large outdoor pool, roof deck and unobstructed views of Chicago. The minimalist renovation was respectful of Mies’s critical principal: less is more.
The same white is utilized for the ceilings which sets-up a dramatic introduction of color and contrast provided by the park and lake views through the floor to ceiling windows. This is when one realizes the power of the white as the interior begins to reflect these same colors transforming the space while you sink back into your chair and take another sip of your morning espresso. At night the walls continue to deconstruct as the space extends out into the city with a cinematic display of activity and lights. Turning away from the windows one becomes engaged in the warmth and functionality of the space with its integrated and well-appointed finishes and appliances. Amply built-in storage allows you to live in the minimalist space without exposing the facets and necessities of life making the space further expand. You learn that you can live within a Midcentury photograph and Mies is not rolling over in his grave but assured that his spaces designed over 50 years ago are still very relevant, minimal, beautiful and most critically livable.
